For more than a decade, siteIQ has sponsored the siteIQ eBusiness Index, an ongoing study that benchmarks the performance of leading websites across the IT industry. Each year, our analysts audit and evaluate 20 or more prominent sites on the IT web to assess how well they market and sell their products and provide pre- and post-purchase support for their varied audiences. The overall results of these evaluations are posted to our website, siteIQ.net, and detailed Website Content, Usability, and Performance results are available to our siteIQ Library subscribers.
As announced earlier this year, however, the siteIQ eBusiness Index will be converted to the siteIQ Usability Index beginning with our 2020 evaluations. Consequently, our 2019 audits mark the end of an era — and will be the last time Website Content and Website Performance are assessed.
This summary announces the Training rankings and ratings based on Website Performance, Total Website Content, and Overall Usability scores awarded during our final 2019 eBusiness Index evaluations.
The results of our 2019 Training & Education evaluations go a long way in proving the adage: The more things change the more they stay the same.
This is clearly evidenced by the fact that IBM.com emerges victorious based on Website Content and Website Performance scores just as it has since our 2013 evaluations – despite our best efforts to shake up the rankings by realigning industry segments and adding nine new sites to the eBusiness Index roster before our latest evaluations.
Alas, none of these changes had the slightest impact on IBM.com’s domination over the competition — or its ability to claim the winner’s podium. This is largely because IBM.com is the only site on the Index to provide 100% of all Training & Education content tracked on the siteIQ Best Practices Benchmark — and to achieve Best Practice status based on its Website Performance score.
What’s more, no other site comes anywhere close to matching IBM.com’s scores, so even its closest competitor would require a significant addition of content or training zone improvements to pose the slightest threat to IBM.com’s leadership position.
When it comes to Website Usability, SAP.com is the winner. And, while it hasn’t held the top spot for as long as IBM.com has led in the Content and Performance rankings, SAP.com — like IBM.com — has a clear advantage over the competition. In fact, SAP.com is one of only two sites that earn Good Practice status and an Above Average Competitive Rating based on Website Usability scores in Training & Education — all other sites post scores that rate as Average or below.
This is a clear indication that SAP.com provides Training & Education resources that are readily available, thorough, and easy to understand — and that its training zone is well organized and logical. In combination, these factors make SAP.com’s training zone more useful for visitors than those offered on other eBusiness Index websites.
So, despite our best efforts to throw a wrench in the works, the winners don’t change in this category. And while there is some movement elsewhere in the Website Content, Usability, and Performance rankings, most of that is just other sites trading places.
