For more than a decade, siteIQ has sponsored the siteIQ eBusiness Index, an ongoing study that benchmarks the performance of leading websites across the IT industry. Each year our analysts audit and evaluate 20 or more prominent sites on the IT web to assess how well they market and sell their products and provide pre- and post-purchase support for their varied audiences. The overall results of these evaluations are posted to our website, siteIQ.net, and detailed Website Content, Usability, and Performance results are available to our siteIQ Library subscribers.

As announced earlier this year, however, the siteIQ eBusiness Index will be converted to the siteIQ Usability Index beginning with our 2020 evaluations. Consequently, our 2019 audits mark the end of an era — and will be the last time Website Content and Website Performance are assessed.

This summary announces the Product Marketing rankings and ratings based on Website Performance, Total Website Content, and Overall Usability scores awarded during our final 2019 eBusiness Index evaluations.

Overall Findings

Even though we shook up the eBusiness Index roster before our 2019 evaluations, there aren’t many changes to the Product Marketing rankings since our 2018 results were published. In fact, 2019 evaluation results reveal that apart from HPE.com and HP.com, which traded places on the Website Performance roster, sites within the Top 5 are simply playing musical chairs.

In reality, this is the case across all three of our competitive segments (Overall Performance, Website Content, and Website Usability) and from the top to the bottom of the rankings. What’s more, a closer look at year-to-year trends shows that most sites are only shifting by one or two positions in either direction, so there aren’t any significant surprises.

Even sites newly added to the Index don’t cause much of a commotion. Rather, the biggest excitement they provide is that Riverbed.com places 8th based on Website Content and comes in 11th based on Website Performance while CDW.com is tied with HP.com for 7th place based on Website Usability. Most other newcomers fall to the bottom of the Product Marketing rankings and have no hope of ever making their way into the Top 10.

So, despite sweeping changes that we had hoped would affect scoring and rankings — and potentially reveal some new eBusiness Index leaders — there isn’t any need for a spoiler alert because the story remains essentially the same:

Prevailing sites like Oracle.com, SAP.com, Cisco.com, and IBM.com barely change positions in the Product Marketing rankings and only a handful of other sites like HPE.com, Adobe.com, and Citrix.com manage to make their way into the inner circle. Meanwhile, sites in the middle of the roster elbow each other to gain or lose minimal ground.
